A CENTURY IN THE SUN: Henry Flagler and The Making Of Modern Florida
A CENTURY IN THE SUN is the story of how Standard Oil magnate Henry Flagler comes to Florida in the late 1800s, builds a railroad and hotel empire on the last American frontier, and launches a population boom that lasts a hundred years.
The film traces Flagler’s impact on Florida through the 20th century, as it becomes the fastest - growing state in the U.S.
The film explores the consequences -- both intended and unintended -- of Flagler’s stunning success in launching the boom that drove Florida’s economy, until it was stopped in its tracks by the Great Recession.

Timothy Long, executive producer at Knockemdown Productions, is a South Florida-based journalist and documentary filmmaker.
A trip to Everglades City a few years ago, led Long to the subject of his first documentary, Escape to Dreamland: The Story of the Tamiami Trail (2008). The Miami Herald called Escape to Dreamland “a tale delightfully and delightedly told.”Long’s second film, Key West: Bohemia in the Tropics (2010), was a smart, funny account of how a radical community-building experiment during the Great Depression led to the laid-back, anything-goes lifestyle of today’s Key West.
The Miami Herald called Bohemia “a hilarious ode to Key West.” More information is available about Long and his other projects at knockemdownproductions.com.
