The head of Florida’s child welfare agency is stepping down.

On Friday, Governor Rick Scott announced Florida Department of Children and Families Secretary Mike Carroll’s last day is September 6.

Carroll has served DCF and its predecessor the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services since January 1990.

Holding the agency’s top slot since 2014, Carroll is the longest serving DCF Secretary in the Department’s history.

No reason for his resignation was given, and the governor’s office said more details on future department leadership would be announced soon.

Meanwhile, Carroll’s resignation comes on the heels of Florida Department of Juvenile Justice Secretary Christy Daly announcing she’s stepping down from her role at the end of this month.
