Florida Blue, Humana Pledge $1M Each To Irma Relief

Hurricane Irma remains a dangerous tropical system.
Hurricane Irma remains a dangerous tropical system.

Florida Blue and Humana will donate $1 million each to relief and recovery efforts for those affected by Hurricane Irma, the companies announced.

"The devastation wrought by Hurricane Irma — from the Keys and south Florida, up our beautiful west coast, and on north to Tallahassee and Jacksonville — has been heartbreaking,” said Florida Blue CEO Pat Geraghty. “The staggering power of nature has humbled us, affecting millions and changing lives and circumstances possibly for years to come.”

The money from Florida Blue will go to areas of the state that were hit hardest by the storm, Geraghty said.

The company will give money to local, regional and statewide organizations, including United Way affiliates, community foundations, the American Red Cross and Volunteer Florida's Florida Disaster Fund.

The Humana Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Humana, is giving a $1 million grant to the American Red Cross.

The company will also match storm relief donations from its employees.

“We stand with the millions of Americans who are dealing with the devastation brought by this powerful storm,” said Humana President and CEO Bruce Broussard. “We are committed to providing support and assistance for disaster relief and recovery efforts to affected communities.”
