May 7 through 13 th is Hurricane Preparedness Week and the state’s largest utility is urging customers to take it seriously.

Florida Power & Light spokesperson Tyler Mauldin says it’s never too early to begin planning for next month’s start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. 

“Have at least a three-day supply of food and water for everyone in your home. Have a backup power source or make arrangements. Relocate when a storm warning is issued if someone in your home depends on electric power for life-sustaining medical equipment. Make sure that your trees are trimmed.”

Hurricane Season runs from June 1 st  through November 30 th .

The Legislature this year is going along with Governor Rick Scott’s proposal for a nine-day, disaster preparedness sales tax holiday beginning May 27.

Forecasters are predicting 11 named storms this year, two of them major.
