Today on Sundial: Open enrollment season to sign-up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act is underway. The deadline, however, is coming up fast. The closing date is Dec. 15.
This year, Congress botched many attempts to repeal and replace Obamacare. But it implemented a shorter enrollment period and allocated almost no federal funds for advertising. Surprisingly, enrollment nationwide is almost 50 percent higher now than at this point last year.
In studio for Thursday's show is Islara Souto, an ACA navigator with the Epilepsy Foundation, and she answered caller's questions about how to find a health plan in the marketplace.
Miami's own chef Jeremiah Bullfrog is one of the forerunners of the food-truck scene that has spread throughout the Magic City. He established the successful gastroPod food-truck in 2009, which came about out of necessity and convenience. "We needed one mobile contained unit to be able to pull this off," said Bullfrog, "just to make our lives easier because by the time you are done setting up, you are so tired."
The Miami food truck scene has exploded since Bullfrog opened up his gastroPod in 2009, but the city is still learning how to appreciate and consume from these mobile establishments, due to the belief that food trucks were unsanitary. "We had to teach Miami that it is a good thing to eat from a food truck," said Bullfrog.
Bullfrog, a graduate of Johnson & Wales culinary school, has appeared in the Food Network and was the personal chef for rapper, Rick Ross, thus solidifying his celebrity chef status.
On the show, Bullfrog travels the country in search of the best food trucks. He aims to show "the real deal flavor of America."
Bullfrog is hosting his own P.I.G 8 pork festival thisSaturday Nov. 18 at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
