Miami Dade County Courthouse Honors The Fallen This Memorial Day

Lisann Ramos

On Tuesday, Miami-Dade County workers honored fallen U.S. soldiers with a tribute at the Miami-Dade County Courthouse.

Employees crowded in the county courthouse lobby for a tribute to soldiers who’ve died in combat.

Gerard Kevin Seifried is a supervisor for the Clerk of the Courts. He started the program 19 years ago.

“Memorial Day is not just a day off. There’s a reason for this holiday. It’s significant and we want to remind people of why we have Memorial Day,” said Seifried.

The program included patriotic songs, poetry and stories about soldiers.

Irvin Edwards was part of a color guard presentation. He’s in the U.S. Army Reserve and also works for the county.

“The lights, the crowd, it felt really good to wear the uniform and honor the fallen,” said Edwards.

The display will be up in the county courthouse lobby until May 29. It features photographs of fallen U.S. soldiers and enlargements of the last letters they wrote home before losing their lives in battle.
