Florida International University Psychologist Asia Eaton is one of the lead researchers in the fight against “revenge porn.” Eaton recently traveled to Facebook’s headquarters to join victim’s advocates in a conversation about how the social media giant can help prevent the spread of explicit material online. Sexting and the sharing of nude material without victims’ consent remains a critical problem in the digital age and can be a difficult crime to prosecute. Eaton joined Sundial to explain what her research has uncovered about non-consensual image sharing and the steps that can be taken to prevent the practice from continuing.

The Sundial inaugural book club book is “Make Your Home Among Strangers” by Miami-native Jennine Capó Crucet. It follows a young Cuban-American woman, Lizet Ramirez, as she goes from her life in Hialeah to an elite private school in the Northeast. The University of Miami has added Crucet’s book to the “UM Common Reading Book” list and the Acting Dean & Professor of Law Osamudia James assigns the book as required reading to her class. James, WLRN’s Digital Director Teresa Frontado, WLRN Producers Alexander Gonzalez and Alejandra Martinez joined Sundial for the Sundial Book Club monthly literary panel to discuss why they loved the book and what it meant for them personally.

Miami’s Major League Soccer team has announced their name and logo. The name is Club Internacional de Fútbol and the logo is a black and pink circle with two white herons with intertwined legs that form the letter “M” in the middle. The logo was unveiled earlier this month along witha 5,000-square-foot mural downtown dedicated to the team. Miami artist Alexander Mijares is the creative mastermind behind the Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami murals. He joins Sundial to talk about his inspiration for the murals and how he was chosen for this opportunity.
