Voting For Judges, Informing The Public On Climate Change, And A New Local Record Label

Chris Remington
The Sundial stopped by the music store, Sweat Records to talk Lolo Reskin, the shop's founder about their new record label.

How can voters decide who to cast ballots for when they know little or nothing about the candidates? On Sundial, Rick Christie, Editor of the Editorial Page of The Palm Beach Post, and Rosemary O’Hara, Editorial Page Editor of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, discussed some of the least-known candidates on Florida ballots: judges. They reiterated the importance of county judges, how to choose, and what Floridians should know about these races as the Aug. 28 primaries approach.

WLRN is teaming up with Miami's CLEO Institute for a special event. "It's Time To Talk About Climate Change" will take place Aug. 27 at 6 p.m at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens and will focus on the impact climate change has on gentrification. CLEO Founder and Executive Director Caroline Lewis, who was recently named by TIME magazineas one of the top leaders changing the American South, joined Sundial to discuss the challenges of communicating the threats posed by sea-level rise and the importance of a better “climate-informed” public.

And Sweat Records has become an indispensable place for Miami music aficionados. The institution has supported local music for the past 13 years by exposing the region to an underground scene and hosting live performances. Now the record store is taking on a new iteration with the launch of an independent record label. Sundial spoke with Sweat Records owner Lolo Reskin about the challenges of starting a label and the bands she hopes to feature. The shop will have a party to celebrate the label's launch on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 3 p.m.
