About WLRN Channel 17
WLRN Channel 17.1 presents the best of the PBS nationally recognized series to compliment locally produced specials. Our prime time programming features an eclectic mix of award winning music and performance shows, breathtaking travel features, self-enlightening specials, and insightful documentaries.WLRN -TV delivers a program schedule that reflects the interests, attitudes, and lifestyles of South Floridians through a wide variety of local and national PBS productions. Original programming is a top priority and WLRN encourages working relationships with community producers to create a wide range of locally produce stories about and for our community. WLRN is proud to bring many South Florida stories to the forefront through national distribution on PBS stations across the country.
With its weekly program line-up of children’s shows, WLRN has become the most-popular kids' PBS station in Florida. This programming commitment has made WLRN the leading Ready to Learn (RTL) station in the state as well. The RTL service builds on the popularity of PBS children's programs and increases their educational value by helping adults use public television as a proven tool for educating their children.
WLRN Channel 17.2/ WLRN Learn is a local, non-commercial, cable channel managed and programmed as a public service of WLRN Public Radio & Television and Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS). The channel is carried by all cable providers in Miami-Dade County and is located on Channel 79 on most cable systems.
An integral part of WLRN's mission is to serve the educational and cultural needs of South Florida's diverse population. WLRN Learns program schedule is an eclectic mix of content that appeals to a broad range of cultural backgrounds, age groups and social interests.
Many WLRN viewers are loyal PBS how-to program followers who enjoy exercising on a regular basis, arts and crafts, and watching intelligent talk shows like Charlie Rose. For our younger viewers, the WLRN Learn schedule also includes a daily line-up of award-winning PBS Kids programs in Spanish.
Viewer feedback also tells us that many South Florida residents rely on WLRN to provide international news as a way to stay in touch with their "home" countries. Le Journal (France) and Deutsche Welle (Germany) are two news programs that are mainstays on the WLRN Learn schedule.
In addition, WLRN Learn also offers diverse, relevant international content from MHz Worldview, a national, independent, non-commercial TV channel presenting fresh, relevant English-language international content including news, documentaries, cultural programming, dramas, films & mysteries, music and sports.
