Many South Floridians know the suave, summertime vibe of Jimmy Buffett’s ‘Margaritaville,’ which he wrote over 40 years ago on his way down to Key West.

But fewer  know about Buffett’s passion for environmental activism - especially for Florida’s ecosystem. His message to protect it reached over five thousand Parrotheads in the Hollywood ArtsPark Ampitheater Thursday night.

Democrat Jeff Greene’s campaign bus pulled up to Jacksonville’s Northwestern Middle School a few weeks ahead of the start of school. The Palm Beach billionaire came to the low-income area to give backpacks to kids.

About a quarter of Florida's nearly $90 billion state budget pays for public schools. The Democrats running for governor say that's not enough.

"We can never spend enough," former Miami Beach mayor Philip Levine said during the first gubernatorial primary debate in April. His opponents for the Democratic nomination largely agree.

"If you could wave a magic wand and have the governor do one thing, what would it be?"

That was among the questions asked of those attending Monday's Democratic primary gubernatorial debate.

The Color of Change political action committee passed out bingo cards as an ice-breaker for representatives of different Democratic organizations at the event. The bingo cards prompted attendees to answer questions about challenges facing Floridians and what they are looking for in a governor.

Florida voters have a chance to evaluate the Democratic candidates for governor tonight during a debate in Miramar.

All but one, that is.

Billionaire real estate investor and candidate Jeff Greene said there's a reason he won't be there.

"I wasn't invited," Greene said, laughing.

Greene entered the race for governor on June 4, too late to be included in tonight's debate. So, he'll watch this one from his home in Palm Beach with his wife and three sons.

Gwen Graham, a former North Florida congresswoman and daughter of former U.S. Sen. Bob Graham, officially announced her bid for governor on Tuesday, becoming the first major female candidate in a crowded field.

“I am so proud to announce I am running to serve as Florida's next governor,” she said.

Graham focused much of her speech on supporting public schools and criticized the state for grading public schools and focusing on standardized tests.

“As governor I will not just criticize this culture of teaching to the test: I will end high-stakes testing,” she vowed.
