Transmitter Problem
If you’re having difficulty receiving 91.3 WLRN on your radio, it’s probably due to continuing repairs on our transmitter. Repairs will be completed no later than Sunday, May 18th. Our live stream on wlrn.org is unaffected. Our apologies, and thanks for your patience!

HD Radio
Welcome to HD Radio

It’s the most significant advancement in radio broadcasting since the introduction of FM stereo more than 50 years ago. HD Radio technology enables AM and FM radio stations to broadcast their programs digitally– a tremendous technological leap from the analog broadcasts of the past.

There are currently over 1,100 HD Radio stations on the air and more than 600 HD2 multicast channels in 85 markets, including South Florida, with more going on-the-air every week. So no matter where you go, you’re likely to find the quality local programming that you want.HD broadcasting is now fully approved by the FCC. Mike Starling, Director of NPR Labs said “[FCC] approval of full multicasting authority opens doors we only dreamed of six years ago.”

WLRN Xtra HD Radio

WLRN Classical HD Radio is now WLRN Xtra HD! As Monday, November 5th,  our HD radio format has changed from classical music to “alternative news and talk”. This service, available both on HD-capable radio receivers at 91.3-2 and streamed live online, here at wlrn.org, provides 24 hours a day of stimulating and engaging news and talk programming, as well as some sophisticated entertainment programs.

Why the change? As you may know, there’s a new radio station in town. Our new public radio neighbor, WCKP, broadcasts classical music 24 hours a day. In keeping with our HD Radio mission to serve South Florida listeners with more choice in their public radio fare, we’ve changed our format, rather than duplicate that of WCKP.

While some of the most popular programs on 91.3 WLRN are available, time-shifted, on WLRN Xtra HD, there are many new shows on the schedule, including the brand new morning show from NPR called the Bryant Park Project. This program and others like it are targeted at younger, more diverse audiences. There are award-winning talk shows from Public Radio International, such as “Here and Now” and “To the Point”, that explore issues of the day. And for those who might miss the “Day to Day” program, recently removed from the 91.3 WLRN schedule to make room for “Fresh Air”, it can once again be heard at its 12:00 noon time slot, Monday through Friday on Xtra HD.

To look at the full WLRN Xtra HD schedule and find out more about HD Radio, you can go to our dedicated website at xtrahd.org. Enjoy!
