Fort Lauderdale will elect its next mayor by the end of the day Tuesday, but that isn't the only city in Broward County with candidates to vote into office and elections at stake. Across the county, five other cities are casting votes. Here's a list of who is vying for what, and how you can cast your vote.
Lauderdale-By-The-Sea
The candidates for mayor are:
- Chris Vincent
- Mark Brown
Running for District 1 City Commission Seat 1 are:
- Alan Bluestein
- Elliot Sokolow
Lauderdale-By-The-Sea voter, Tracey Plunkett, said at the Jarvis Hall polling location early Tuesday, that she is happy with how her city has been developing over the past ten years.
“You have to stay up with the times and stay current while still maintaining our really old-Florida-like town, which is the charm of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea,” she said.
Hallandale Beach
Running for City Commissioner Seat 1 are:
- Mike Butler
- Ann 'Annie' Henigson
- William, 'Bill' Julian
- Thomas W. Sands
- John Stassi
Pembroke Pines
Running for City Commission District 1 are:
- Thomas 'Tom' Good
- Ismael 'Izzy' Monroig Jr.
- Ted Victor
Running for City Commission for District 4 are:
- Angelo Castillo
- David Tringo
Fort Lauderdale
Running for mayor are:
- Dean Trantalis
- Bruce Roberts
Running for City Commission District 2 are:
- Steven Glassman
- Tim Smith
Running for City Commission District 4 are:
- Benjamin 'Ben' Sorensen
- Warren Sturman
Elizabeth Athanasakos is a Fort Lauderdale voter who has lived in the city for 61 years. She said, it was the rate of development that drove her choice for mayor.
“I moved to a nice, small town of Fort Lauderdale, it was just great - and it’s changed so much,” she said.
Coral Springs and Pompano Beach voters can vote for or against the issuance of general obligation bonds for the following projects: Public safety, parks and recreation, and streets and drainage. How general obligation bonds will be used for these projects is worded differently for both Coral Springs and for Pompano Beach.
