Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony updates the media on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, on an internal affairs investigation involving use of force. BSO fired Deputy Christopher Krickovich on Tuesday after the completion of a review and a hearing.

The Broward Sheriff’s deputy whose violent slamming of a high school teenager’s head on the pavement was captured on a cellphone video was fired this week despite the recommendation of an oversight board that he keep his job.

Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony said during a press conference at the Broward Sheriff’s Office headquarters in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday that Deputy Christopher Krickovich’s actions back in April were unreasonable and unnecessary.

“I disagreed with that recommendation and he was terminated yesterday,” Tony said. “We don’t have a policy that allows a deputy to slam someone’s head into the ground.”
