Mia Laurenzo

Television Producer

Mia Laurenzo is a 30-year veteran of public television in Miami. She began her career learning every aspect of video production. Currently she is a writer, producer, on-air host and promotions coordinator for TV, radio and the web.  Her experiences include producing for a series, special events and historical documentaries.  As a native Floridian, she is a perfect fit for South Florida's Storyteller Station, WLRN.  She has produced award winning, nationally distributed documentaries like Journey to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade where one year she followed a high school band and a clown as they prepared for the big day and the next year, she had the privilege of being a clown herself.  Previously, she produced Weird Florida: On the Road Again, a sequel to the highly successful show Weird Florida: Roads Less Traveled, where the cast and crew travel over 1,500 miles searching the Sunshine State’s weirdest and wackiest places.   On a more serious note and what she considers to be her most important work, she produced Out of Darkness, Into Light, a documentary on child sexual abuse,which delved into the lives of  three adult survivors, a show in which she was awarded her first of two Emmys.  

Monday 8pm REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR - Documentary - Narrated by veteran Hollywood actor Tom Selleck,this film chronicles the personal stories of veterans and citizens who witnessed the surprise attack by the Japanese on the American Pacific Fleet on December 7, 1941, launching the United States into World War II. 

Sunday 9pm SECRETS OF THE DEAD - Science/History/Education -Part detective story, part true-life drama that unearths new evidence on historical mysteries using modern forensic techniques to shed light on unexplained events. 

Friday 10pm FRONTLINE Investigative Documentary - TRUMP'S TRADE WAR - The inside story of President Trump’s gamble to confront China over trade. Reporting from the U.S. and China, FRONTLINE and NPR investigate what led the world’s two largest economies to the brink, and the billions at stake.

Thursday 9pm AMERICAN EXPERIENCE - History - "American Experience" combines dramatic re-enactments with commentary by historians and authors to present an absorbing look at the personalities, events and resources that have had a profound impact on the shaping of America's past and present. INTO THE AMAZON -  The remarkable story of President Theodore Roosevelt's journey with legendary Brazilian explorer Candido Rondon into the heart of the South American rainforest to chart an unexplored tributary of the Amazon.

Wednesday 8pm NEW YORK: AMERICA'S BUSIEST CITY - Documentary - Ade Adepitan, Anita Rani, Ant Anstead and Dan Snow take a closer look at one the most complex cities in the world and reveal the astonishing daily systems that allow America's biggest and busiest city to function day and night.

Thursday 9pm, THE CHINESE EXCLUSION ACT: American Experience - Documentary - Examine the origin, history and impact of the 1882 law that made it illegal for Chinese workers to come to America and for Chinese nationals already here ever to become U.S. citizens. The first in a long line of acts targeting the Chinese for exclusion, it remained in force for more than 60 years.
