The Broward School Board rejected a recommendation that Miramar High math teacher Karleef Jamel Kebreau, 42, receive a one-day suspension after an investigation concluded he gave hugs and made inappropriate comments to six female students.

The Broward School Board said no to a light punishment for a teacher accused of giving frequent unwanted hugs to students, with one member saying she’d support termination.

Superintendent Robert Runcie recommended that Miramar High math teacher Karleef Jamel Kebreau, 42, receive a one-day suspension after an investigation concluded he gave “full-frontal” hugs and made inappropriate comments to six female students, as reported by the Sun Sentinel.

“I have zero tolerance for sexual harassment,” Board member Laurie Rich Levinson said, suggesting Kebreau be fired. “We are about protecting our students, and multiple student came forward about a teacher in a school. We have to take it seriously.”
