Businesses Sue FPL And Contractor Over Water Main Break

South Florida Sun Sentinel via WSVN-7
Filed in Broward Circuit Court, a new lawsuit seeks damages for the days businesses had to close after Florida Communication Concepts bore a 6-inch hole in the 42-inch water main as it was working underground to repair electrical lines on July 17.

Two Fort Lauderdale businesses affected by the recent water main break have filed a lawsuit against Florida Power & Light Co. and its contractor, Wellington-based Florida Communication Concepts.

The lawsuit, which alleges “reckless and negligent conduct,” was filed on behalf of restaurant Phat Boy Sushi and law firm Morgan Olsen & Olsen LLP, but seeks class-action status to represent others that lost business as result of the water main break.

Neither FPL nor its contractor could immediately be reached for comment.
