Discovering the Intricate Details of America's Busiest Cities

Wednesday 8pm NEW YORK: AMERICA'S BUSIEST CITY - Documentary - Ade Adepitan, Anita Rani, Ant Anstead and Dan Snow take a closer look at one the most complex cities in the world and reveal the astonishing daily systems that allow America's biggest and busiest city to function day and night.

A look at food consumption in the Big Apple. From dusk until dawn at the New Fulton fish market in The Bronx, they uncover the hidden night time operations, hard-nosed negotiations and price fluctuations of this enormous wholesale operation. Ade also looks into local apple production, Anita visits a cattle farm that supplies the region's steakhouses, Ant visits the New NY Bridge, and Dan heads to Freshkills on Staten Island. Once the world's biggest landfill, it's been transformed into 2,200 acres of parkland.

9pm GREAT LIGHTHOUSES OF IRELAND - Documentary - Detailing the previously untold stories of lighthouses in Ireland, their keepers, and the vital role they have played in maritime safety over some 200 years.

 

The series features many of the 12 Great Lighthouses of Ireland and explores just how Ireland became a world leader in lighthouse engineering, the roles our lighthouses played in historic events and how theyíve evolved with electronic and GPS navigation.

This episode reveals how Ireland became a world leader in lighthouse engineering. Often working in hostile and treacherous natural locations, Ireland's lighthouse engineers and builders used great ingenuity to achieve what seemed practically impossible.

Mia Laurenzo is a 35-year veteran of public television in Miami. She began her career learning every aspect of video production. Currently she is a writer, producer, on-air host and promotions coordinator for TV, radio and the web.  Her experiences include producing for a series, special events and historical documentaries.  As a native Floridian, she is a perfect fit for South Florida's Storyteller Station, WLRN.  She has produced several award winning, nationally distributed documentaries and is the recipient of three Suncoast Regional Emmys.
