Electric Scooters Booted From Fort Lauderdale Beach For Summer

Two men on Bird scooters weave between traffic and pedestrians as they ride up State Road A1A on Fort Lauderdale beach in November. The city announced Monday that electric scooters won't be allowed on the beach this summer.

Electric scooters are becoming a popular form of transportation in parts of South Florida, like Fort Lauderdale Beach.

But not for the summer.

Fort Lauderdale officials announced yesterday that electric scooters are now banned on the beach through mid-August, as reported by the Sun Sentinel.

There are four companies providing scooter rentals.

The city will further discuss electric scooters at a meeting next week. Governor Ron DeSantis has yet to sign or veto a bill that would give cities the ability to allow scooters to operate on streets and in bike lanes.
