In this episode of The Florida Roundup, we discuss what's ahead for Floridians in the new year.
POLITICAL LEADERS
A few political possibilities hang in the air for 2015. Former Florida governor Jeb Bush is making way for a 2016 presidential run. Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez reconsiders his party affiliation. While this isn't an election year, candidates will make their future intentions known.
SCHOOL TESTING
Students will take a new standardized test that replaces the FCAT this year. But parents and school boards are revisiting statewide testing requirements.
SAME-SEX MARRIAGE
The road for wedding cake was long and litigious for same-sex couples in Florida. On New Year's Day, a judge clarified his previous ruling that lets gay couples obtain a marriage license starting Tuesday, Jan. 6.
CUBA
The relationship between the U.S. and Cuba normalized in December, easing some previous restrictions. The status of the embargo, which is in effect, may change.
