Fort Lauderdale will not be getting a new mayor this year. Two-term incumbent Jack Seiler has won his third, and final, three-year term in office.

His landslide victory, with 71 percent of the vote, may mean a media storm has passed for Seiler.

The mayor became the subject of a media firestorm of after ushering through the commission new homeless regulations in the city. At the end of October, the City of Fort Lauderdale passed measures restricting where people could provide foodto the homeless, an effort Seiler supported and defended.

Over the ensuing weeks, that move became the subject of national headlines after a 90-year-old homeless advocate was arrested for serving food to the homeless. Mayor Jack Seiler took the brunt of the criticism -- including from comedian Stephen Colbert on the Colbert Report (watch below).

In his campaign, Seiler cited growing tourism and declining unemployment over his six years in office, as well as his work to improve the quality of life in the city. The homeless measures were intended to be part of that.
