Alejandra Martinez
Fernando Subirates is a multi-instrumental musician specializing in the Tabla drum.

A Florida Atlantic University poll shows Congressman Ron DeSantis and Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam in a virtual tie, but there are still 22 percent of Republican voters who remain undecided. The University of Southern Florida’s Political Analyst and Professor, Susan A. MacManus joins Sundial to talk about both candidates.

Note: Both Republican candidates have declined repeated requests for interviews with Sundial.

One proposal on the Aug.28 primary ballot is a one-half millage tax that would increase funding across Broward Schools for the start of the 2019-2020 school year. The tax would fund school resource officers and increase teacher pay. Broward Teachers Union President, Anna Fusco joined Sundial to explain why the funding is necessary, why Superintendent Robert Runcie should resign and to talk about the increased security measures at Broward County Schools.

This weekend will be the 20th anniversary of the Association of Performing Arts of India. There will be a screening of the iconic 1958 film, “The Music Room," and a concert with a legendary sitar player and Tabla performer Ustad Irshad Khan. Cuban American Fernando Subirats is a multi-instrumental musician and has played the Tabla for 20 years. He joined Sundial to talk about his love for Indian music, South Florida's Indian community and the similarities between Indian music and Latin music.

The 20th anniversary of the Association of the Performing Arts of India will be on Aug. 25 at the Savor Cinema and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $15.
