Key West Museum Wants Your Drinking Tales

Oct 28, 2015

In Key West, stories about carousing in bars can be legendary. Now they will be preserved as history.

The Key West Art & Historical Society is planning an exhibit to open Nov. 20 called Bars, Brews & Blues: A History of Carousing in Key West

It will review the island's history through its watering holes. Key West has had multiple identities throughout its years as a fishing town, Navy post and now tourism mecca — but bars have been a constant throughout. The flow of booze continued through Prohibition, supplied by the near proximity and frequent crossings to Cuba.

As part of the exhibit, the Art & Historical Society is collecting bar tales from the public. Those stories will become part of an oral history component of the show.
