House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will be in South Florida Thursday amid increasingly tense rhetoric over the impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump.
The objective of Pelosi’s appearance in Broward County is to give a speech spotlighting Democrats’ criticism of the Trump administration’s Venezuela policy. Pelosi and Democratic congressional leaders are calling for extended Temporary Protected Status to curb deportations of Venezuelans in the United States among other measures.
The visit to Weston, dubbed “Westonzuela” for its large Venezuelan expatriate community, is a political gambit given the heightened rhetoric over the U.S. House impeachment proceedings on a day when the first key witness — former U.S. envoy to Ukraine Kurt Steven Volker — is scheduled to give a closed-door deposition on Capitol Hill.
