New Publix Delivery Service Makes It Easier To Get Boozy At Home

As people clamor to get the best black Friday deals, there’s one thing you may want to leave off your list — alcohol.

Publix Grocery Stores will now deliver booze right to your doorstep if you happened to forgot rum for your coquito or bourbon for your eggnog.

The Lakeland-based grocer has partnered with Instacart for a while now to administer its delivery service. It will now extend that service to Publix Liquor Stores and drop off spirits within two hours of checking out online.

Before you can check out on your online order, you have to enter your birth date and agree that you won’t be intoxicated when you receive the order. The delivery driver is supposed to check ID when dropping off the alcohol to make sure you’re 21, but then you can be on your merry boozy way.

Don’t think you’re guaranteed to get a deal, though. Prices will vary from what products cost in the store, and there's a $5.99 delivery charge (unlimited delivery is available for $14.99 a month). Also, you can’t buy any groceries with your alcohol, so you will have to order your handle of vodka and pub sub separately.

Publix joins a growing pool of startups, including Postmates and Klink, that are trying to make it easier for you to get liquored up at home, or at least without having to go to the store yourself.
