The Sackler's Family South Florida Ties, Workers Ride Bus From Miami To Keys & Sundial Book Club

Commuters ride the Dade-Monroe Express bus as it makes its way down to Marathon, Florida. The coach-style, air conditioned bus can seat 50 people and can take about two hours to make its way from Florida City to the Keys.

The Sackler family, who founded the pharmaceutical company Purdue Pharma, purchased an office building in West Palm Beach. Recently, the family has been accused of being one of the main drivers of the explosion of opiates nationwide. Palm Beach Post reporter Alexandra Clough joined Sundial to talk about how this brings additional concerns to Palm Beach County's opioid crisis. 

Low-Wage Workers Ride Bus From Miami To The Keys

As housing in Monroe County continues to rise, many low-wage workers have been forced to leave the county in search of cheaper housing. Many of those workers  have moved to Miami and continue to work in the Keys. They take a bus every day forthree to four hours just to get to work. The Miami Herald’s Florida Keys reporter David Goodhue recently joined the group of commuters on the Dade-Monroe Express bus. Goodhue talked to Luis Hernandez on Sundial about the commuters he met and what it means for the Keys economy.

In the September book club title "Miami Midnight" by Alex Segura, protagonist Pete Fernandez, a Cuban-American private investigator, is forced to solve the one crime he never expected: his mother's murder. We hear from the author of the book about his love for crime fiction and his side hustle of writing for Archie Comics.
