Jimmy Buffett. The Blues Brothers. LMFAO. These different artists have one thing in common: they've made songs about Miami.
And a Spotify-based program called Spotimap charted those songs on a map. Users can find songs by clicking on cities marked with little green notes.
The playlist’s 22 songs, most of which have “Miami” in the title, are acquired from this Wikipedia list. If the song is on this list, it will show up in the Spotify playlist.
Well known tracks, such as Will Smith’s “Miami” and Buffett’s “Everybody’s Got a Cousin in Miami,” share the list with songs by Owl City, Taking Back Sunday and Bette Midler.
Compared to Miami’s selection, New York City pulls up 2,707 songs about the city and its boroughs. London has the most with 2,744 songs.
More than 15 locations are pending. The map's coder and cartographer Javier Arce is importing more places into the program, including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago and Nashville.
Future maps will include songs about Jerusalem, Rio de Janeiro and Toronto.
