Telemundo News Anchor José Diaz-Balart Gets A New Show On MSNBC

José Diaz-Balart

José Diaz-Balart says he doesn’t think of his new daily English-language show on MSNBC as South Florida being ready for the national spotlight – he thinks of it more as the nation is now ready for South Florida.

Diaz-Balart is a long-time veteran of both English and Spanish-language TV and radio – both local and international. He is currently the anchor of Noticier Telemundo at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Now, with this summer’s premier of Jose Diaz-Balart on MSNBC at 10 a.m. ET, he views this as an even bigger opportunity to showcase his home. The show is based in South Florida.

“We are a real key part of the United States,” says Diaz-Balart, 53. “And in the news business, think of all the folks in South Florida who have made a difference on the national level – David Bloom, Kerry Sanders, Katie Couric. So many people. South Florida continues to be the place for news.”

Diaz-Balart was born in Fort Lauderdale to a politically prominent Cuban-American family that includes  brothers Lincoln and Mario, both with Washington, D.C., service.

“What I am doing and what others are doing is really just reflecting what America is all about,” Diaz-Balart says.
