Negotiations for a long-planned development in Miami continued Wednesday, as representatives of the Mana Wynwood team met with members of the Wynwood Business Improvement District. The development would occupy as much as 24 acres and include art galleries, a new fire station, residences and a public open space called the Wynwood Commons.

Calle Ocho Receives A Million-Dollar Makeover

The mayor of Miami, Tomas Regalado, announced Thursday a new $1 million project to enhance Calle Ocho.

The project will consist of extending the plaza where the iconic Domino Park is located on Southwest 15th Avenue to the north side of Eighth Street. Also, the mayor has plans for building new sidewalks, planting trees along the sidewalk to provide shade for pedestrians and a new innovative trash can.  Yes, trash can.

The trash can displays local artists’ art on its side and is immune to graffiti—the first of its kind.

A performing arts center that’s in a converted Delray Beach parking garage faces an uncertain future after the city suspended a nearly $69,000 payment last week.

 

The payment to the Arts Garage would have come from a reimbursement program for non-profits.

After a period of economic decline, Miami's Overtown is getting a booster shot.

On Thursday, the city's Southeast Overtown / Park West Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) approved a joint plan that would cede two city blocks to a team of developers in the hopes of rejuvenating a stretch of land in one of Miami's core neighborhoods.

In the city of Coral Gables, you can't paint the exterior of your home unless the color is pre-approved by the city's Board of Architects, otherwise you'll need to:

  1. Fill out a permit application
  2. Fill out a Board Of Architects application
  3. Bring in a color picture of the house
  4. Bring in a sample of the proposed color

Joel Hitchman, a plans coordinator assistant for the Board Of Architects, said they receive about two to four applications a week and that about 90 percent of them get approved.

Hallandale Mismanaged Millions In Redevelopment Funds, According To Report

Broward’s Inspector General has found that Hallandale Beach officials “grossly mismanaged” millions of dollars in public funds “entrusted to the care of its Community Redevelopment Agency,” according to a report obtained by BrowardBulldog.org.

  “The OIG (Office of Inspector General) investigation substantiated the allegations and uncovered numerous deficiencies in the city’s administration of the CRA,” says the 50-page preliminary report. It has not been released publicly  that has not been released publicly.
