Rebranding Miami Beach

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Miami Beach’s party scene is quiet. Bars, nightclubs, and tourist attractions have remained closed throughout the pandemic.

During the last few months of 2019, several local and statewide organizations in Florida were finalizing big plans for Census 2020 outreach.

A lot of it would involve door-to-door canvassing in neighborhoods across South Florida and beyond, as well as in-person events focused on educating hard-to-count communities.

As state and local officials debate reopening Florida schools to children, another core government service remains operational at a significantly reduced capacity: Driver License and Motor Vehicle Service Centers, or DMVs for short.

Front-line health workers and senior clerics in Brazil are adding their voices to the chorus of alarm about President Jair Bolsonaro's response to the coronavirus pandemic.

With more than 87,000 deaths and 2.4 million registered infections so far, Brazil has suffered more cases than any other country except the United States.

Florida has reported more than 430,000 cases of the coronavirus, officially surpassing New York for having the second most COVID-19 cases of any state in the country — just behind California.

Miami-Dade County has amassed approximately a quarter of those cases and 1,404 deaths. The county recently imposed a statewide mask mandate and has already begun issuing $100 fines for non-compliant residents. The University of Miami’s Dr. Erin Marcus says these new rules are important but have come far too late.

The federal government has repeatedly warned Americans about scammers trying to sell dietary supplements as a remedy for COVID-19 when medical experts say supplements are neither safe nor effective for treating the disease.

But if consumers type "coronavirus supplement" or "COVID supplement" into the search bar at Amazon.com, not only does the online retailer auto-complete the search, it serves up pages and pages of supplements without any warning about the scientific evidence.

It’s hard to believe Venezuela’s humanitarian crisis, especially the shocking collapse of its health system, could get worse. Thanks to the economic shock of the global COVID-19 pandemic, it has — as anyone who knew Jesús Mendoza now realizes.

17 Residents, Fellow At University Hospital System Contract Virus After Private Party

Jul 27, 2020

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – At least 17 anesthesiologist residents and a fellow at one of the premier university hospital systems in Florida contracted COVID-19 earlier this month after attending a private party together, according to hospital insiders and internal documents.

On the face of it, $600 is a pretty unremarkable number.

The federal government has been paying this additional amount each week to every person who qualifies for unemployment benefits during the pandemic.

The latest run of hand sanitizer recalls on methanol concerns has hit Walmart (again) and Target among other retail outlets.

All five hand sanitizers recalled Friday were on the FDA’s list of hand sanitizers that tested as having methanol (wood alcohol) or were believed to be made in the same facility as one that tested as having methanol. The agency says methanol, if rubbed into the skin, can be toxic and shouldn’t be used for hand sanitizer.
