On Monday, Trump supporters formed a line outside the Amway Center, where the president plans to announce his re-election campaign.

Florida is expected to be a key battleground in the 2020 election, and the campaign launch highlights the importance of the I-4 corridor.

Supporters wore hats and T-shirts and held signs with slogans like “re-elect Trump, Keep America Great” and “Trump 2020”.

Jennifer Petiel and her friend Gary Beck arrived 40 hours before the start of the rally, to secure their place in line.

President Donald Trump called on Tuesday for more bipartisan cooperation in his State of the Union address to a newly-divided Congress. In South Florida, Democrats and Republicans appeared no more unified after the 82-minute speech.

While conservative voters applauded his conciliatory tone on certain issues like infrastructure, progressives said polarization under Trump would remain the status quo. And as Republicans praised his continuing demands for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, liberals bashed him for demonizing immigrants.

Last Sunday, Broward attorney and GOP State Committeeman Richard DeNapoli got a call from an employee at Avis Rent-A-Car in the Fort Lauderdale airport. Someone had found a lone provisional ballot box, sealed by the Broward Supervisor of Elections Office. It was sitting, unsupervised, in the back of a returned rental car.

In his final push in the campaign for governor, former Republican Congressman Ron DeSantis told supporters on Monday that he can win the race if the GOP dominates election-day voting.

“I think if Republicans vote and vote in big numbers on Tuesday, we will win all of these races,” he said at a rally outside the Freedom Pharmacy on the east side of Orlando.

He was joined by U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., state Rep. Matt Caldwell, the Republican candidate for agriculture commissioner, and Ashley Moody, a former judge who is the GOP nominee for attorney general.

In the final stretch ahead of Tuesday’s election, Florida Gov. and Senate candidate Rick Scott dropped by South Florida to tell a group called Republican supporters they need to vote to prevent a “blue wave” of Democratic wins.

“There’s no blue wave,” Scott said to a crowd of about 100 people in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday afternoon. “But if we don’t vote, there could be.”

Sunday’s event was organized by Bikers for Trump, an organization that has coordinated rallies to support Donald Trump ever since he announced his candidacy for president.

From the beginning of his campaign, Ron DeSantis, a lawyer and former congressman, tied his electoral chances to Trump, using frequent appearances on the Fox News network to defend the president and his policies.

It has all led to this.

Three days before Election Day, Ron DeSantis joined the man who has played a larger role than any other person or issue in skyrocketing his career from Freedom Caucus congressman to the candidate Republicans nominated to lead the state of Florida.

The two men on stage Saturday night took wildly different paths to arrive at this moment — one a businessman-reality star and the other an Ivy League military man — but in their rally speeches to a crowd of around 5,000 people, they made it clear their political fates were intertwined.

Armed with ominous hyperbole and the aura of “winning,” President Donald Trump flew into Southwest Florida on Wednesday night to whip the Republican vote ahead of Tuesday’s elections and save America from the Democrats.

Less than a week from an election that could propel him toward reelection in 2020 or ensnare him in a fight for political survival, Trump warned the Sunshine State faithful that an Andrew Gillum governorship would take Florida’s purring economy and turn it into a Venezuela-like recession.

Former television journalist Maria Elvira Salazar cruised into a victory for the Republican Party primary for the 27th Congressional District of Florida, winning 45.51 percent of the votes in a crowded race that had nine candidates.

Salazar stepped into the victory party to blaring salsa in the heavily Cuban-American Westchester neighborhood, holding the hand of soon-to-be-retiring Republican Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who has held the seat for decades.

With the backing of President Donald Trump and more than 100 appearances on Fox News under his belt, U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis sailed to victory in Florida's Republican primary for governor Tuesday, defeating a longtime favorite of the GOP establishment with a campaign based largely around the president.

DeSantis beat out Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, who had seemingly built up the run for governor his entire adult life after being elected to office as a 22-year-old.

Supporters waving campaign signs and a warm cup of Cuban coffee awaited Republican candidate for governor Adam Putnam this afternoon at La Carreta Restaurant on Bird Road in Miami.

"South Florida is an engine of our state," Putnam said. "Where would we be without the vibrant South Florida economy?"

A recent Florida Atlantic University poll has Congressman Ron DeSantis and Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam in a virtual tie in the race to be the Republican candidate for Florida's governor, but 22 percent of Republican voters remain undecided.

According to the state's largest teacher's union, educators vote at a higher rate than the average Floridian.

Several dozen Pinellas County teachers gathered in downtown St. Petersburg Sunday for a "Get Out The Vote" rally. Like their counterparts across the country, the teachers wore the color red as a sign of solidarity.
