Florida is experiencing one of the worst Hepatitis A outbreaks in recent history. The State Department of Health puts the number of cases for this year at 1,466 as of Monday. That’s more than the 1,175 total cases reported in the past 5 years.

State lawmakers passed several bills in the wake of last year's scourge of red tide attacking the coastlines and blue-green algae coming out of Lake Okeechobee. But some environmentalists say they didn't address the source of the problem - nutrients flowing into waterways.

Florida has elected the highest ranking Latina in the state's political history. State Representative Jeanette Nuñez will be the Lieutenant Governor alongside Republican congressman Ron DeSantis, the new Governor-elect.

Nuñez is the current Speaker Pro Tempore of the Florida House of Representatives. During her time as a state representative, she advocated for conservative tax policy to attract small businesses. She also took unique stances on issues like immigration, sponsoring a bill that would offer undocumented students in-state college tuition.

Following the deadly synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh, candidate for Lieutenant Governor for Florida, Jeanette Nuñez says she is "singularly focused on safety and well-being of the community."

Rep. Nuñez is running alongside Republican Congressman Ron DeSantis for Florida’s governorship. She is current Speaker Pro Tempore of the Florida House of Representatives and began her career in 2004 as the State Director for Government Relations at Jackson Health System.
