Armed robbers hijacked a UPS truck after a robbery in Coral Gables, leading police cars on a harrowing chase up Interstate 75 that ended Thursday night in a dramatic shootout on a busy street in Miramar.

Sixteen people who were arrested after demonstrating outside a Miramar Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility Wednesday have been released from the Broward County Jail in Fort Lauderdale. One other person was transferred to the jail in Pompano Beach and is expected to be released soon.

The 17 protesters were charged with unlawful assembly, a second-degree misdemeanor, and obstructing a roadway, a first-degree misdemeanor charge, after gathering in the intersection of SW 29th St. and 145th Ave. to call on Mayor Wayne Messam to shut down the ICE office. 

Miramar Police Department's Oldest Dog, Mac, Retires

Officer Mac, the dog, of Miramar Police Department is retiring after 10 years. He's an 11-year-old Belgian Malinois, making him the oldest of the department's six dogs. Police dogs, on average, serve between six to eight years. A retirement ceremony was held for Mac Thursday morning at the Youth Enrichment Center in Miramar.
