It's true. I gave up the NFL for one whole season. At first, I must admit it was hard. It was extraordinarily hard. Those first Sundays, I would turn on the game almost by reflex. Then I would turn it off and forced myself out of the apartment to find a distraction. But, as time passed, I learned to fill my weekends with other activities and personal pursuits. Like what? Well, the obvious. I read more. But, that's not all. I finished the first draft of my novel. I listened to a lot of podcasts and even started working on one of my own. So yeah, it got a lot easier to let go of the game.

Miami will be in the Super Bowl next year regardless if the Dolphins win or lose. It’s all but guaranteed.

The game returns to South Florida for the 11th time in 2020.

It will have been a decade since the last Super Bowl was played here. The game, and all the fanfare surrounding it, has gotten bigger. Supporters say the economics of the game remain strong. And the Dolphin's gamble to renovate the stadium worked.

The Los Angeles Rams and the New England Patriots will face off in this year's Super Bowl after winning the NFC and AFC conference championships, respectively, on Sunday.

The Rams, who overcame a 13-point deficit to beat the Saints, last played in the Super Bowl in 2002 — against none other than the Patriots. The St. Louis Rams won the NFL title two years before that.

The Patriots defeated the Chiefs to return to the Super Bowl for a third consecutive year.

Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association reached a historic agreement Wednesday with the Cuban Baseball Federation.

The agreement, which MLB owners voted on Wednesday afternoon, is designed to give Cuban players an alternative to a journey that often takes them to third countries such as Mexico, the Dominican Republic or Haiti where they establish residency and then try to sign MLB contracts.

If you just happened to be in the crowd at a super featherweight bout in Indio, Calif., on Saturday evening, you might not understand the importance of that particular boxing match.

But for Patricio Manuel, it represented 12 minutes of triumph. With that fight, Manuel, 33, became the first openly trans man to compete in a professional boxing match in the U.S.

Florida State fan posted images on social media depicting coach Willie Taggart getting lynched, prompting outrage Sunday morning.

Florida State president John Thrasher released a statement Sunday stating the post was unacceptable and indicated an investigation is being conducted by the state attorney.

Is it the Florida-Georgia game or the Georgia-Florida game? It’s an age old debate between fans of the annual rivalry between the University of Florida and the University of Georgia at TIAA Bank Field.

The Los Angeles Dodgers outlasted the Milwaukee Brewers 5-1 in the deciding Game 7 of the National League Championship Series Saturday night.

With the win, the Dodgers will return to the World Series for the second year in a row, to face off against the Boston Red Sox — and look to rewrite last year's fate, after losing Game 7 of the World Series to the Houston Astros.

Boston's pitchers held the Houston Astros to just five hits, and Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers continued his surprising postseason with a three-run home run Thursday night as the Red Sox won the American League Championship Series.

Boston will advance to the World Series, where they'll face the National League series winner. The Los Angeles Dodgers lead the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 in that series, and can wrap it up in Game 6 on Friday (Fox Sports, 8:30 p.m. ET).

A game of soccer is underway beneath a hazy afternoon sun.

At first glance, it looks like any other you might encounter in Brazil, a nation celebrated for its unwavering addiction to this sport.

A group of teenage boys in brightly colored shirts battles for the ball, urged on by a coach who is barking instructions with the ferocity of a drill sergeant.

Look again, though, and you soon spot a difference: Not one of these young and skillful players is Brazilian. They are all Chinese.

Marlins' former third base coach Rich Donnelly thanks his daughter, Amy, for baseball's iconic phrase “The chicken runs at midnight.”

In Major League Baseball the phrase means victory. Donnelly began to use the saying when he worked with the Pittsburgh Pirates' player development department in 1992.

Tiger Woods has won his first professional golf tournament in more than five years. He was victorious at the season-ending Tour Championship Sunday at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

NPR's Tom Goldman tells our Newscast unit: "Woods led the tournament from start to finish. His steady, dominating play seemed like a throwback to the early 2000s, when he ruled the game."

But Goldman says the "moment of victory in Atlanta, was different. He didn't throw one of his trademark uppercuts — instead Woods raised his arms and teared up."

Dwyane Wade looked into the camera, stood alone in the middle of a darkened room and talked for 10 minutes. He struggled with his words at times, unable to control his emotions. He wept.

And finally, he made what he called the hardest decision of his life.

One more year.
