Florida’s voter registration data will be cross-checked against information from 28 other states for the first time starting next year, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Wednesday, promising increased accuracy of the state’s voter rolls.

During an appearance with election officials at the Orange County supervisor of elections office in Orlando, DeSantis said Florida will join the nonpartisan Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), a bipartisan cooperative working to improve the accuracy of America’s voter rolls.

Republicans working to re-elect President Donald Trump sent volunteers to a voter drive at a gun show in Pembroke Pines over the weekend. 

Civil rights groups are hoping a federal judge will strike down a new Florida law that they say does not properly carry out a constitutional amendment restoring voting rights to felons who have completed their sentences.

The Broward County Supervisor of Elections held a conference call Thursday to talk about the voter registration list maintenance process. The process takes place every two years and is designed to protect the integrity of elections. It began in March and will continue through the year.

The process comes on the heels of multiple issues with ballot counting in the county during the November 2018 elections. Then Broward Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes was accused by former Gov. Rick Scott of fraud and incompetence.

Second Lawsuit Seeks More Time For Voter Registration

Three groups filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday seeking to force the state to give Floridians an extra week to register to vote because of Hurricane Michael.

Just in the past few months, elections in the U.S. have been decided by hundreds of votes.

The 2016 presidential election tilted to Donald Trump with fewer than 80,000 votes across three states, with a dramatic impact on the country. Yet, only about 6 in 10 eligible voters cast ballots in 2016.

After numerous complaints last week, Florida’s election agency says the glitches on its online voter registration website are fixed. But, if anyone sees any other issues going forward, they’re urged to report them immediately.

It’s been just over two weeks since the shooting that left 17 people dead at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. 

But on Friday afternoon, a handful of Cypress Bay high schoolers came to Weston Regional Park wearing maroon ribbons to show support for Douglas students...and to get registered to vote. 

Veronica Carbonell, a 17-year-old senior at Cypress Bay, was one of the students who registered at the event. 

Florida could start sharing voter information to make sure people aren't registered in other states under a bill approved by the Florida House.

Online Voter Registration Starts In Florida
