Organizers of Saturday's “No Kings” rallies nationwide and South Florida are predicting that the protests against the actions of President Donald Trump and his administration could add up to one of the largest demonstrations in U.S. history, with Minnesota taking center stage.

Organizers say more than 3,100 events, including more than two dozen in South Florida, from the Keys to Palm Beach County, have been registered in all 50 states, with more than 9 million people expected to participate.

And they’ve designated the rally at the Minnesota Capitol in St. Paul as the national flagship event, in recognition of how the state where federal agents fatally shot two people who were monitoring Trump's immigration crackdown became an epicenter of resistance.

Headlining that observance will be Bruce Springsteen, performing “Streets of Minneapolis,” which he wrote in response to the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, and in tribute to the thousands of Minnesotans who took to the streets over the winter. Springsteen's Land of Hope & Dreams American Tour, which has a “No Kings” theme, kicks off Tuesday in Minneapolis.

Rallies are also planned in more than a dozen other countries, from Europe to Latin America to Australia, Ezra Levin, a co-executive director of Indivisible, a group spearheading the events, said in an interview. Countries with constitutional monarchies call the protests “No Tyrants,” he said.

For those unable to attend in person, another activist group, Stand Up For Science, is hosting a “virtual and accessible” event online.

In South Florida, at least 25 “No Kings” protests are planned as part of similar demonstrations across the country. It’s the third scheduled protest of its kind since President Trump took office.

Speaking at a news conference Thursday, Sarah Parker, a National Coordinator for 50501 and executive director of the Voices of Florida Fund, said protesters have added the "illegal war" in Iran on its list of issues with the Trump administration, along with its opposition to enforcement tactics of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

"Every single time we have a new No Kings, there's something else happening. It is consistent. Our neighbors are being executed," Park said. "We have ICE at airports. This moment is different because there's an illegal war in Iran. We are saying no Kings in America for a reason."

In Coral Springs, protesters gathered at the corner of Sample Road and University Drive early Saturday, to call out ICE and its aggressive enforcement efforts.

“Families in Florida are living under fear because ICE continues to violate rights, ignore due process, and target people who have done nothing wrong," said Jenn Bakowski of Joyful Resistance, a group that organized protester in Coral Springs.

"We’re gathering to show that real authority comes from community, not from an agency that routinely breaks the laws it claims to enforce," Bakowski said. "Stand with and for your neighbors this Saturday to demand an end to the funding of the domestic terrorism of ICE.”

Deirdre Schifeling, the chief political and advocacy officer for the American Civil Liberties Union, said its there's a responsibility to resist.

"Peaceful resistance is the antidote to repression, and it's the antidote to the despair and powerlessness that repression is trying to make us feel," she said.
