George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch volunteer acquitted in the shooting death of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, has picked up a paintbrush to help a Florida gun shop owner who has banned Muslims from his store.
Zimmerman is selling prints of his painting of the Confederate flag to benefit Florida Gun Supply of Inverness.
Last month, owner Andy Hallinan posted a controversial video declaring his shop a “Muslim-free” store. The Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) filed a federal lawsuit, asking a judge to prohibit the store from discriminating against people on the basis of religion.
In a video posted on the shop’s webpage, Zimmerman said he reached out to help Hallinan pay legal bills by selling prints of his paintings.
Zimmerman explains to Hallinan why, in a video posted on the gun shop’s website. “I was painting the American flag when I heard of you getting sued by CAIR,” said Zimmerman, “and I decided that I would do for you what the American people did for me.”
