Mayoral Election In Homestead
Steve Shiver, one of the candidates running for mayor of Homestead, is under investigation by the Homestead Police Department. Shiver was accused of bribery while being city manager of Opa-locka. Miami Herald reporter Jay Weaver has been part of a year-long investigation looking into the corruption in Opa-locka and joined Sundial to give the latest.
Forward Motion Dance Fest
The Forward Motion Dance Festival breaks through misconceptions about disabled dance performers. Their conference is kick-off for a second year this weekend in Miami. Participant Tiffany Geigel is a dancer, model and activist. She joined Sundial to talk about what are the challenges and experimenting of performing with a disability.
Celia Cruz’s Legacy Exhibit
Celia Cruz, the Queen of Salsa, is being celebrated in an exhibition called Por Siempre Celia or Forever Celia at the American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora. It features clothing, awards, photos, posters and memorabilia of the Afro Latina’s 60-year career. Cruz’s former manager Omer Pardillo-Cid joined Sundial to talk about her legacy and key items from the exhibition. Por Siempre Celia will be on display until Oct. 25.
