Mayor Carlos Gimenez leads challenger Raquel Regalado in a new poll of registered voters.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez appears to be easily coasting to a second term in a run-off election.

In a new WLRN - Univision 23 survey by Bendixen andAmandi International of Miami-Dade County registered voters Gimenez leads his opponent Raquel Regalado by double digits.

Though Regalado is a current Miami-Dade County Public School board member who first announced her campaign 20 months ago, 40 percent of voters responded they did not recognize or have an opinion about her.

Gimenez leads among racial groups. Regalado's support is strongest among Hispanics.

Regalado spent years working as a Spanish-language radio host. Her support among Spanish-speaking voters is a statistical tie with Gimenez, who has stronger support among English-language voters.

The Miami-Dade County Local Issues poll was conducted Oct. 15 and 16, 2016 by the firm Bendixen & Amandi at the request of WLRN and Univision 23. It is based on a sample of 600 Miami-Dade registered voters, who answered questions in English and Spanish. The margin of error is 3.99 percentage points.
