South Florida consumers used to be able to buy fresh tomatoes and bell peppers at Publix that were grown at Whitworth Farms in Boynton Beach. But last year, the third-generation farming family was forced to lease its land because it was no longer profitable to farm it.
Now, Glenn Whitworth Jr., 33, is among Florida farmers hoping to revive their businesses by growing hemp — the “no high” cannabis plant used for CBD oil and many other products, as reported by the Sun Sentinel.
This summer will bring a surge of activity toward getting the state’s regulations and permits for hemp farms in place.
