Turkey Point
Earlier this week, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NCR) released a positive environmental impact statementon the Turkey Point Power Plant. The report looked at groundwater contamination and the impact of sea-level rise from the plant’s nuclear reactors on its surrounding areas. It showed favorable results that could help the plant receive approval for their proposed 20-year extension. WLRN’s Jenny Staletovich has been reporting on the nuclear plant and joined Sundial to talk about the reports and an update on the story.
Citizenship Affordability
A new program by Catalyst Miami, a nonprofit social services organization, is offering people applying for citizenship zero-interest microloans. The Citizenship Lending Circle’s goal is to make the process more affordable. Santra Denis, the chief program officer for Catalyst Miami and Elina Santana, a local immigration attorney. They joined Sundial to breakdown the naturalization process and how loans like this can help those who are applying.
A Book On Mar-a-Lago
South Florida-based author Les Standiford’s latest book, "Palm Beach, Mar-A-Lago, and the Rise of America's Xanadu," chronicles the creation and history of Mar-a-Lago. Standiford, who’s been a longtime director of the creative writing program at Florida International University has been writing history books since 2002. He joined Sundial to give a preview to his newest Florida book ahead of the release date on Nov. 5.
