WLRN Nominated For Five Emmy Awards

WLRN Public Television has been honored with the nomination of three documentaries and two promotion videos by The Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, a prestigious nonprofit organization committed to honoring excellence in television.

With WLRN's high-impact original local documentary on the taboo issue of child sexual abuse, we have received a nomination in the category of Societal Concerns for Out of Darkness, Into Light.  This touching half-hour documentary delves into the lives of three adult survivors of child sexual abuse, who through their own personal experiences, are committed to helping others affected by this unthinkable crime.

Our depiction of the prohibition era from Palm Beach to Key West in the documentary Prohibition and the South Florida Connection has earned accolades and a nod for the nomination in the Historical Documentary category.  This engaging one hour documentary explores the prominent role South Florida, and its Caribbean neighbors played in the transportation of illegal booze into the U.S. during this infamous era.

Also, in remaining committed to not only the historical aspects of our community, but a celebration of its institutions, our documentary Ralph Munroe's Barnacle: Centerpiece of a Legacy has received the nomination for the Nostalgia Program  category.  This half-hour documentary takes viewers back to what South Florida looked like when Ralph Munroe arrived in 1877. No highways, no streets, and certainly no railroad, yet Ralph Munroe was captivated by the people and the natural world he found.

In addition to our three nominated documentaries, we also received two nominations under the category of Promotions, for our spots titled "Funner Projects" and "Reverse Aquarium."

Emmy’s winners will be announced at the 36th Annual Suncoast Emmy Awards reception on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at the Westin Beach Resort in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  WLRN is proud to be amongst other nominees for the coveted Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards, which recognize excellence in television and the regions' leadership for their artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry. Entries are submitted from all over the region including Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia and Puerto Rico.
