Broward County Launches Dashboard Of Businesses That Violate Reopening Requirements

Updated Wednesday at 4:20 p.m.

It’s been more than a month since non-essential Broward County businesses started reopening, and now the county has a way for residents to see which businesses are upholding the standard reopening requirements as Florida’s COVID-19 cases rapidly increase.

The county’s Planning and Development Management Division created a dashboard where residents can view reported businesses in their district and municipality.

The reported businesses on Broward’s new dashboard include anything from restaurants to convenience stores.

The database is color-coded to represent the various violations each business received. The majority of the complaints are social distancing and sanitation violations. It also shows the outcome of each complaint such as if the county issued a warning, if there’s pending inspection, or if the business resolved the problem.

As of Wednesday, Broward County has issued 372 warnings and citations. There are 743 pending inspections and 145 resolved problems.

Residents can anonymously report businesses by visiting MyBroward.Broward.org or calling the county’s 311 hotline.

Miami Beach Brings Back Curfew Amid Rising COVID-19 Cases

Updated Wednesday at 10:50 a.m.

Miami Beach is reimposing a citywide curfew as coronavirus cases keep shooting up.

The curfew will be from 12:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. every day, City Manager Jimmy Morales told the City Commission in an email on Wednesday.

“This will reduce the social interaction and help police with enforcement against loitering,” Morales said. “There is nothing else to do after midnight.”

Inmate Cases Continue To Climb

Updated 7:30 a.m.

The number of Florida prisoners who have tested positive for COVID-19 surpassed 2,000 on Tuesday, according to the state Department of Corrections.

All but three of the state’s 2,027 total inmate cases are concentrated in 16 prisons located in various parts of the state. Four of the prisons --- Homestead Correctional Institution, Liberty Correctional Institution, Hamilton Correctional Institution and South Bay Correctional Facility --- have at least 200 inmate cases.

As the highly contagious virus continues to spread throughout Florida’s prison system, corrections officials said Tuesday the department has offered voluntary COVID-19 testing to all inmates and staff members at 10 prisons.

As of Tuesday, 453 correctional workers have tested positive for the disease, corrections officials said. Twenty-four inmates have died of complications related to COVID-19, including three prisoners who died in the last week.

Cases Increase In Juvenile Justice System

Updated 7:30 a.m.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the state juvenile-justice system has continued to gradually increase, with 100 workers and 93 youths testing positive as of Tuesday, according to the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.

Those numbers were up from 89 workers and 85 youths in a Friday count. Palm Beach Youth Academy has had the most cases, with 21 youths and 11 workers testing positive. The Department of Juvenile Justice said Tuesday that 17 of the facility’s youths were no longer in medical isolation, and 10 of the workers had been medically cleared to return to their jobs.

The Department of Juvenile Justice has taken a series of steps to try to prevent the spread of the virus in juvenile facilities, including suspending visitation. “All staff that work at state-operated juvenile detention centers and residential commitment programs are screened daily on every shift prior to entering the facility,” the department said in a news release.
