A strong cold front sweeping southward toward Southeast Florida is likely to produce scattered strong thunderstorms late Thursday afternoon into early Thursday evening.
The greatest risk of these thunderstorms is between 1 and 8 PM. As the cold front moves through, the storms will move offshore between 6 and 8 PM near the Treasure Coast, and shortly after 8 PM along the Gold Coast and Upper Keys. Strong winds and relatively cold temperatures in the upper atmosphere will be supportive of large hail and a few downburst winds with the strongest thunderstorm cells.
After the front clears South Florida, a 15-degree drop in temperature is likely Friday afternoon compared to what the thermometer will read Thursday afternoon. Highs in the lower to mid 70s are expected Friday into Saturday, and overnight lows in the 50s are possible over interior Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. The coolest readings are likely a few miles inland from the Treasure Coast, where lows in the low to mid 50s are likely Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings.
