The United States said Tuesday it has offered critical emergency humanitarian assistance to the people of Cuba to recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Ian.

The Joint Legislative Budget Commission will hold an emergency meeting next week to release an additional $360 million into the Emergency Preparedness and Response Fund, which was established this year with $500 million. Most of the initial funding has already been allocated for Ian recovery efforts.

The hurricane dumped more than 2 feet of rain in some areas of the island. The rain and flooding have left a soggy mess across many homes and weary residents are starting to clean up.
