7:30pm Sunday IT’S THE GREAT PUMPKIN CHARLIE BROWN
Charlie Brown is excited to be invited to his first ever party, Violet's Halloween party. Before the party, the Peanuts gang plans to go trick or treating, with Snoopy, who is dressed as the WWI flying ace, taking his Halloween persona to an extreme. The one person who won't be joining them for the trick or treating or the party is Linus, who will be waiting in his local pumpkin patch for the arrival of the Great Pumpkin. Linus believes that the Great Pumpkin rises out of the most sincere pumpkin patch - none more sincere than his own local one - flies into the air, and delivers presents to all the boys and girls around the world. Because of his belief, Linus is the laughing stock among his friends. Sally is torn between going trick or treating for the first time and attending Violet's sure fire fun Halloween party, or following her love Linus and waiting for the Great Pumpkin's arrival with him.

- After this special originally aired, children all over the country sent candy to Charlie Brown out of sympathy.
- Actress Cathy Steinberg had almost finished recording all her lines of dialog as Sally when the producers received a phone call from Steinberg's mother informing them that one of Cathy's teeth was loose. Fearing that a sudden lisp would ruin the continuity dialogue, the producers rushed the young actress into the studio to finish recording her lines. Just as Steinberg was speaking her last line, the tooth came flying out of her mouth.
- Lucy's signature move - pulling the football away from Chuck as he's about to kick it, causing him to fly through the air and land on his back - was animated for the first time here.
- Schroeder plays four songs for Snoopy from World War One: "It's a Long Way to Tipperary", "There's a Long, Long Trail", "Pack Up Your Troubles In Your Old Kit Bag", and "Roses of Picardy". (source: IMdB)
