In Miami-Dade County, one organization is working to improve the quality of life for residents who live in neighborhoods affected by gang violence.
On Monday, the Miami-Dade Anti-Gang Strategy focused its efforts in Miami’s Liberty City neighborhood after a spate of shootings in the past two months left four dead.
The Miami-Dade Anti-Gang Strategy is a collaborative effort by federal, state, and local organizations that seek to reduce gang-related violence.
Wayne Rawlins, developer and lead consultant of the project says to better combat crime, it’s important to improve the quality of life in many of the low-income areas where gang violence is rampant.
“We go door-to-door delivering county, state, federal and city services to the residents in the affected area,” he says.
The group has tackled the issue of gang-violence across the county including in Miami Gardens, Overtown, Goulds and Florida City.
