Florida has some of the richest – and poorest – members of Congress, according to a review by the political website CQ Roll Call.

Researchers checked the financial disclosures of all 541 senators, representatives and delegates on Capitol Hill. The top 50 richest members each have a net worth of at least $7.4-million.

Florida’s wealthiest member is Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Sarasota. His businesses and investments boosted his net worth to more than $37 million last year.

Also in the top 50 are Republicans Tom Rooney and Curt Clawson, and Democrat Alan Grayson.

Financial disclosures also reveal who isn’t doing as well. Florida has two representatives – both Democrats - among Congress’s 10 least wealthy members.

Rep. Alcee Hastings from Miramar has a mortgage and is still carrying debt from his impeachment as a federal judge several decades ago.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz has multiple mortgages, loans, and credit card debt.

Everyone on the poor list has a negative net worth. But they don’t have to reveal the value of their homes, so they may not be as poor as they seem.
