On Google’s homepage, Mexican TV comedian Roberto Gómez Bolaños stands proudly with one hand on his hip as his body is magically projecting out of a classic 1970s television.
Gómez Bolaños, who is better known as Chespirito or "Little Shakespeare," died at age 85 in 2014. Today would have marked his 91st birthday.
Chespirito is well-known across Latin America and internationally for his great work as an actor, comedian, film director and author. He played the role of el Chavo in the 1970s Mexican sitcom television series “El Chavo del Ocho,” which he created and his iconic El Chapulín Colorado, a spunky and hilarious superhero.
Sayings he coined like, "¡Síganme los buenos!," which means "Good people follow my lead" and "Se me chispoteó," which means "I messed up," are still widely used in conversations.
In a career that spanned four decades, Chespirito created more than 100 episodes of television. His humor captured the hearts of many. To this day, Chespirito is known as one of the most important Spanish-language comedians of all time. In the Google doodle, he wears a black hoodie with the superhero’s initials “CH.”
