MIDSOMER MURDERS follows the efforts of Detective Chief Inspector John Barnaby to solve crimes that occur in the wealthy, isolated English county of Midsomer, a picturesque and peaceful place on the outside but one filled with amoral and snobbish eccentrics with all kinds of vices.
DCI John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) and Detective Sergeant Ben Jones (Jason Hughes) have dealt with their fair share of morbid twists and turns in their investigations, but when the veteran policemen hear reports of a murderous headless horseman stalking Midsomer, even they are mystified.
THE DARK RIDER - When Bentham DeQuetteville falls to his death from a roof after seeing a headless horseman, his aristocratic family seem more concerned about their forthcoming Civil War re-enactment than the incident. As Barnaby and Jones try to find out the truth behind the ghostly figure, their investigation uncovers shocking secrets about the DeQuettevilles.
Other cases this season feature: a string of killings that conveniently occur when a convicted killer returns from prison; an amateur astronomer who is fatally struck by a meteorite; and a serial killer with a mind for chess. However, nothing prepares Barnaby, Jones and pathologist Dr. Kate Wilding for the final episode this season when a woman is crushed to death by a giant wheel of cheese.
