It’s an encore presentation of the popular series Frankie Drake Mysteries August 31st at 9pm. Set in 1920s Toronto, the all female Drake Private Detectives crack the cases the police don’t dare go near.
Frankie Drake Mysteries follows the female-only agency Drake Private Detectives, led by the eponymous Frankie Drake and her partner Trudy Clarke.
Incorporating a brand of justice that doesn't always follow the law, Frankie and Trudy investigate mysteries and crimes that either the police refuse to take on, or that their clients cannot take to the police at all. Against a backdrop of social change, radical politics and jazz music, the series is immersed in both the real Toronto of the 1920s and the world of mystery and suspense.
In the premier episode Mother of Pearl Frankie is named a suspect in a jewel heist and to clear her name, she has to partner with a surprising ally.
ABOUT FRANKIE AND TRUDY
Frankie Drake is a daring new detective for a new world, taking on cases that the police don’t dare touch. Raised in Toronto by her small-time swindler father, Drake quickly gained an appetite for adventure. With her skill as a cunning dispatch messenger in World War I, she attracted the attention of her commanders, who recruited her to the world of espionage. After her cover was blown during her final mission, she founded Drake Private Detectives, Toronto’s first all-female detective agency. With her associate Trudy Clarke, the duo crack cases that the traditional detective agencies can’t.
Trudy Clarke lived her life having to put her dreams aside for responsibilities. The first-born of Jamaican immigrant parents, she had to help her mother tend the house, look after her four younger brothers, and contribute to the family’s income. However, with her beautiful singing voice, a knack for performance, and her razor sharp wit, she knew she was destined for greater things. She found a new life when she met Frankie Drake, and she uses her skills to go undercover in all manner of roles to help solve the case.
